Postdoctoral Researcher
signal ambiguity and intensity, facial and contextual cues

Marie-Pier Plouffe-Demers is an FRQNT Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Psychology at Yale University. Her research examines how situational and social context shapes the perception and communication of affective states. She is especially interested in how facial and contextual cues are integrated to infer others’ emotional states, and how signal ambiguity and intensity influence cue weighting and downstream social behavior. In her current work, Marie-Pier adopts an interdisciplinary, multimodal approach that combines affective science with computational methods, including natural language processing and automatic facial expression analysis, to study emotional communication in ecologically valid contexts. She completed her PhD in Psychology at Université du Québec à Montréal, where her doctoral work examined cross-cultural variation in affective communication. Outside the lab, Marie-Pier enjoys spending time outdoors, exploring nature, cooking and trying new recipes, and attempting to stay grounded through yoga (results may vary).
